![]() Migraine headaches can be treated or at the very least have their frequency and intensity reduced. While some migraines have a neurological basis, others are simply the result of impaired liver function, increased toxic burden, sleep-related biochemical disturbances and oxidative stress. Some people suffer from headaches because of reactions from ingested food. High levels of intestinal bacterial, fungal and yeast growth can also contribute to migraines if the body is unable to deal with the metabolic by-products of these microorganisms. Poor digestive function and a compromised liver which is not able to perform phase1 and phase 2 detoxification can contribute to ongoing headaches. As part of our normal metabolism, we produce ammonia which is cleared in the urea cycle. But if certain metabolic co-factors are not available in sufficient quantities, ammonia builds up and causes a host of health problems including headaches. A frequent source of migraine is increased overall toxic burden in the body. Lead, mercury and cadmium are present often in patients suffering from migraine. Many migraine patients also develop multiple chemical sensitivity. The source of the multiple chemical sensitivity can be several- food additives including preservatives and flavorings, pthalates and parabens used in everyday cosmetic products and pesticide residues.
Our approach at XY Clinics is to make a detailed assessment of each patient. We try and identify the source of the problem and provide treatment options. |
