![]() Chronic stress from any source results in disturbed sleep, poor appetite control, weight gain, inflammation, lowered immunity and increased cardiovascular disease risk. When you are regularly or chronically stressed, your adrenal glands become tired and fatigued from having to respond to the stress signals. Adrenal hormones serve a useful purpose when stress is only occasional. They help release a form of glucose from the liver, muscle cells and break down fat to provide extra energy to deal with the stress-producing situations. However if we subject ourselves to high stress situations for prolonged times, the positive effects of adrenal hormones will become negative. Once adrenals are fatigued, the signs of tiredness, depression, and lowered immunity appear. Weight gain becomes an issue while ability to lose weight becomes an even bigger problem because proper functioning of the adrenal hormones is essential in helping a person lose fat.
Many more people suffer from chronic stress and burn-out now than before because many more people work highly demanding, performance-driven jobs. Combined with regular travel, and irregular sleep, the stress impacts many individuals’s health. Hypertension is a common complaint. Disturbed or inefficient gastrointestinal function is another. The list of symptoms is long. |
